Álvaro Antunes, of NAV-Portugal, said the cloud entered mid-Atlantic Azorean air space at about midnight Monday at an altitude of about 6,000 meters, well below altitudes generally used by most trans-Atlantic flights. Antunes, who is based at NAV-Portugal's Oceanic Centre on Santa Maria island, said he did "not think the cloud will affect traffic" in Portuguese air space. At noon Tuesday, the cloud was located about 100 miles (160 kilometres) north of Corvo island, he said, adding that it was expected to approach to within 50 miles, but with a tendency to float away to the north/northeast. source: TPN/Lusa
